Youth & Junior Volunteer Programs

Our Junior Volunteer Program provides students with the opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on experience while supporting wildlife conservation and the daily operations of the Nature Center.

Ages 15–18

Junior Volunteers

Junior volunteers assist with visitor engagement, special events, educational activities, and administrative projects while learning how a nonprofit organization operates and serves the community. Through the program, students build valuable leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while making a positive impact on local wildlife and conservation efforts.

the community.

*For safety and wildlife protection reasons, Junior Volunteers do not feed or handle animals.
Their role focuses on supporting visitor experience, events, and operational needs that help the Nature Center run smoothly.

Camp Wild Junior Volunteer Opportunities

Sawgrass Nature Center offers youth the opportunity to build leadership skills while supporting our Camp Wild environmental education program through two age-based volunteer roles.

Ages 13 – 14

Counselor in Training (CIT)

The CIT program introduces younger volunteers to leadership and mentoring while helping with camp activities.

Ages 15 – 18

Camp Counselor

Camp Counselors take on a larger leadership role supporting staff and helping guide campers throughout the program.

EcoLeaders Docent Program

The EcoLeaders Docent Program is a four-week leadership and public speaking program designed to help students build confidence while educating visitors about the Sawgrass Nature Center and its mission. Throughout the program, participants engage in small group “campfire” discussions focused on leadership, effective communication, and public speaking.

Family Volunteers – Green Team

The Green Team is a great volunteer opportunity for younger volunteers and families who want to work together while supporting conservation efforts at the Nature Center. Green Team volunteers help maintain the grounds and outdoor spaces that support wildlife habitats and visitor experiences.
